  1. Hi teacher, how is it going?

    First of all, thank you for this English class. I am sure will help a lot of people here. I have some struggles in English, for sure, but the prepositions are my main problems nowadays. As you said, sometimes we want to translate the same sentence in Portuguese to English, but anytime don’t work. I know there are many examples, but if you can put more tips like that, would be great.

    Knowing the verbs and their prepositions, it’s amazing because our speaking get better.

    I have not brought any examples here, I would like just thank and if I wrote something wrong, please, correct me. hahahahahaha….

      Prepositions can be quite tricky sometimes and a lot of people struggle with them.

  2. Teacher I have a question.

    You told a little bit about the word: “Discuss”, and in this case the verb doesn’t have any preposition when we talk in some topic. In your example: “We discussed the merger terms in yesterday’s meeting”, so is wrong I to say:”We discussed ABOUT the merger terms…”or can I use this way?

      Grammatically speaking, it is wrong to say “discuss about the merger terms”.

      That being said, this is a mistake that doesn’t compromise your communication, meaning: people will understand you when you say “discuss about something”.

      It’s like in Portuguese, when someone says: “Vou na reunião.”
      Grammatically speaking, it’s wrong, because the verb “ir” demands the preposition “a”:
      “Vou à reunião.”

      But everyone understands when someone says “Vou na reunião.”

      I want you to know the correct way, but don’t be paranoid or too stressed about this, ok? 🙂

      Most importantly: don’t let concern this stop your communication.

    I invest a part of my salary in my education.
    According to Brazilian Law, all employees have to get pay salary.
    I learn everyday reading from the news.
    I think bad something happened to Joana, because she used to be so happy, and now she is very sad.
    My family depends on me to pay the bills.
    Education is behind fun for some people, when we talking about priority.
    I need to check this before making decision.
    We discuss approach the payroll training

      – education comes behind fun- better: education comes after entertainment
      – when we talk about (OR when we’re talking about) – another option: when it comes to priorities
      – before making a decision
      – We discuss (or discussed, if it’s in the past) approach in the payroll training
      – I’m gonna be relaxed
      – we’re gonna analyze it and go back to you
      – at 3 pm

  6. I learned preposition from Ho Mien Mien, but improve my English and memorise what I have learned depends on me.

    I also have a question is there any difference by using learned or learnt?

      -but improving my English and memorizing …

      And no, there is no difference between “learned” and “learnt”; in British English, “learnt” is more common, whereas “learned” is standard for American English!
